The ECFMG Information Booklet contains detailed information on ECFMG’s program of certification. ECFMG is a division of Intealth® . The information contained in this booklet pertains only to the ECFMG Certification process and related applications and services. All applicants pursuing ECFMG Certification must use the most current edition of the Information Booklet available to them at the time of inquiry and must become familiar with and will be subject to the policies and procedures detailed therein.
Applicants also must carefully review and be familiar with the Policies and Procedures Regarding Irregular Behavior and the detailed instructions provided in web-based applications, such as the Application for ECFMG Certification and the ECFMG Pathways.
Applicants for the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) are required to read and become familiar with the information contained in and referenced in both the ECFMG Information Booklet and the USMLE Bulletin of Information , as well as any related addendums.
Although current at the time of publication, the information contained in the 2026 ECFMG Information Booklet is subject to change. If changes occur, information will be posted on the ECFMG website. You are responsible for checking the ECFMG website for updates and changes in policies and procedures.
We provide important updates on ECFMG Certification and entry into graduate medical education in the United States in The ECFMG® Reporter newsletter and on Instagram. We encourage applicants to subscribe to The ECFMG® Reporter and to follow Intealth on Instagram .
Consistent with Intealth’s Privacy Notice, ECFMG may share the information contained in your application, or that otherwise may become available to ECFMG, with any federal, state or local governmental department or agency, with any hospital, training program, or any other organization or individual who, in the judgment of ECFMG, has a legitimate interest in such information. This may include reporting determinations of irregular behavior to the USMLE Committee for Individualized Review, Federation of State Medical Boards of the United States, U.S. state and international medical and other regulatory authorities, graduate medical education programs, and to any other organization or individual who, in the judgment of ECFMG, has a legitimate interest in such information. For further information regarding our data collection and privacy practices, please refer to our Privacy Notice .
The information you provide to us as part of any application or service request will become a part of your permanent record, including the information you provide as part of the process of obtaining a MyIntealth Identification Number or other identification number. All correspondence with us, including emails, also will become a part of your permanent record.
All documents that you submit to us as part of the certification process, including supporting documentation, translations, etc., will become part of your permanent record. Applicants must upload all credentials via MyIntealth. Copies of credentials sent by mail, courier, or email will not be accepted.
We strive to ensure proper processing of applications for ECFMG Certification, related service requests, and the information contained in such applications and requests. In the unlikely event that an error occurs in the processing of applications, requests, or associated materials, we will make reasonable efforts to correct the error, if possible, or permit you either to reapply at no additional fee or to receive a refund. These are the exclusive remedies available to applicants for errors in processing applications and other service requests related to ECFMG Certification, and the other services described in this booklet.
Please note that ECFMG will not provide services of any kind if doing so would be considered violative of any applicable international, federal, state, or local laws or regulations. Additionally, ECFMG may delay or suspend provision of services while investigating whether the services or surrounding circumstances violate such laws, regulations, or ECFMG’s policies and procedures.
